Hoza Seeds is a small-scale family business where a passion for onions has been passed down from generation to generation since 1870. That passion is not only palpable on our shop floor but is also evident in our products.
Short lines of communication, efficiency and decisions that are reached easily are hallmarks of a family business. At Hoza Seeds, this is naturally no different; the kitchen table is our meeting place. Every day, we take a critical look at our processes and our products, striving for the perfect onion. High quality is therefore guaranteed. Hoza Seeds stands for excellent quality and good value for money.

Thanks to years of experience and continuous improvement, we now have 9 onion varieties and 1 shallot variety of the highest quality in our range.
History of
Hoza Zaden
Our company has been a household name in the onion trade since 1870.
In 1870, the onion trade on Goeree-Overflakkee had not yet really taken off. Arie Hoogzand therefore set up an agricultural onion trading business in Sommelsdijk, making him one of the pioneers in this field.
In 1939, the Hoogzand brothers – Koos and Cor – decided to relocate the business to Oudenhoorn, as the land on Voorne-Putten was still undeveloped. At that time, the Hoogzand brothers’ onion sorting business was already breeding seed for their own use.
Demand for onion seed increased around 1970, and from that point onwards, the Hoogzand onion trading and sorting business gradually transitioned into a seed breeding company. Since 2005, Hoza Seeds has been entirely dedicated to the breeding of onion seed.
The fact that it is a true family business is even reflected in the names of the onion varieties: almost all of them are named after the grandchildren of Kees and Ria Hoogzand.
The Future of
Hoza Zaden
The onion market is changing rapidly, and Hoza Seeds is adapting accordingly. Labour-efficient production, logistics automation and data integration are key. We have been using Eqraft’s Optical Grader since 2017. This optical sorting machine sorts onions at high speed by size, colour, shape and weight, and checks both the internal and external quality of our seed onions.
